Haitian patties and good coffee on Avenue I

Café Lakay is a neighborhood coffee shop in Brooklyn. Warm patties from the case, specialty lattes, loose-leaf tea and a back room where you can stay a while.

Golden, flaky patties on the café counter

Lakay means home in Haitian Creole

That is the whole idea. You walk in, someone behind the counter says hello like they mean it, and your order comes out the way you like it.

Café Lakay is Black-owned and women-owned. The food carries Haitian roots, the coffee bar makes the lattes people cross the neighborhood for, and there is plenty of seating for anyone who wants to sit down instead of rushing off.

Stay in the back room

Behind the counter area there is a quieter space with room to spread out. Bring a laptop, a journal or a friend, order a second latte, and take your time.

“This place deserves its flowers, and then some.”
