What is vibe coding and how does it work?
Short answer
Vibe coding means building software by describing what you want to an AI in plain language and steering the result, instead of writing the code yourself.
The longer answer
Andrej Karpathy coined the term in a post in February 2025, describing a way of coding where you fully give in to the vibes and forget that the code even exists. Collins Dictionary named “vibe coding” its word of the year 2025.
In practice: you describe what you want, the AI writes the code, you look at the result and say what to change. You judge the work by using it, not by reading every line.
