Find clients

Find clients looks for businesses around a place that have no website or an outdated one, reads who runs them and how to reach them from their own pages, builds a draft website for the ones you pick, and prepares a first letter or email for you to send yourself, if you decide to. It is part of the Business plan.

Ask ChatGPT Ask Claude
  1. Place and radius

A town, or an address and Enter, and how far around it: 2, 5, 10 or 25 km.

  2. Kind of business

Hair salons, painters, physiotherapy and about fifty more, or every kind.

  3. What to look for

No website, an outdated or broken one, an email, the owner's own email, a phone number.

  4. The list

Fills while the websites are read. The nearest 150 businesses of a search are checked. A search costs 1 credit, billed when it is done.

Each business shows why it is there in plain words, like “Not made for phones: the page has no mobile layout” or “The address does not exist anymore”, and where every fact came from: the business directory, its home page, its Impressum.

Or describe whom you are looking for in your own words, in any language, in the box at the top, like “Coiffeure in Basel ohne Website”: the helper fills in the search and you start it. It also answers short questions about Find clients. The helper is free.

Where the data comes from

  • Businesses: Overture Maps Places, an open data set with data from Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare, BrightQuery and AllThePlaces (CDLA Permissive 2.0, Apache 2.0, CC0). No Google data: Google's terms forbid keeping it.
  • Websites: read by frascati's website check, see below.
  • Emails and owners: from the business's own Impressum, contact page or home page. In France also from the public company register.
  • No website? frascati also looks under the business's name (like its name with .ch) and only counts a site as theirs when it shows their phone number, or their name with their town.

Few emails without a website

Measured in Basel: 29 of 100 businesses have no website, but only 4 of 100 of those publish an email, while 84 have a phone. Businesses without a website mostly list only a phone; outdated websites usually name an email and the owner in their Impressum.

Drafts

  • Built from the business's facts only: its kind, place, phone and opening hours when its own page states them. No texts or photos of theirs, no logo, no forms.
  • Online as a draft at an address without their name, hidden from search engines, with a line on top: whose draft it is, that it is not their official website, and Remove this draft.
  • Offline by itself after 30 days. Each draft is a project of yours, so you can open it in the editor and carry on.
  • It goes online in your name and under your responsibility. Show it only to the business it was made for.
  • About 4 credits each, billed by what the AI really uses.

The first contact

Short and personal, in the business's language, about what was seen, with the draft's link. Your name and address go under it, then suggested data protection lines: where the data came from, what it is used for, that it is deleted after 6 months if nothing comes of it, and, as a sentence of its own, that the business can object. Check them and adapt them to your case. If you decide to contact the business, you send it yourself: as an email from your own mail program, Gmail or Outlook, or as a printed letter with the draft's link written out (Print or save as PDF). frascati sends nothing. About 0.2 credits per text.

Switzerland

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising email usually needs consent first. Advertising calls are usually allowed, but not to numbers with a star (*) in the phone book, nor to numbers that are in no directory: check the number on local.ch or search.ch first. A letter is usually the least restricted way.

Germany

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising email usually needs prior express consent. A call to a business needs at least its presumed consent, which courts read narrowly. A letter is usually the least restricted way: Find clients prints it for you.

Austria

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising calls and emails usually need prior consent, also to businesses. A letter is usually the least restricted way.

United Kingdom

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising email to limited companies and LLPs is usually allowed with your identity and a way to opt out; sole traders usually need to agree first.

France

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising email to a business is usually allowed when it concerns its trade, with your identity and a simple way to object.

United States

General hint for a first contact with a business
Advertising email is usually allowed with an honest subject, your postal address and an opt-out that works.

These hints are general information, not legal advice. They can be incomplete or outdated, and following them does not make a contact lawful. Check the rules that apply to you and to the business.

Your responsibility

frascati never contacts anyone for you and sends nothing in your name. You alone decide whether, how and when you contact a business, and you alone are responsible for it: for what you write, the way you choose, and the laws that apply to you and to the business, on advertising by email, phone and letter, on unfair competition and on data protection.

  • Not for spam: no unsolicited mass advertising, no automated or bulk sending, no contact without a consent the law requires, and none to anyone who objected.
  • Show a draft only to the business it was made for, and never suggest a relationship that does not exist.
  • For your lists, exports and notes and for your contacts, you are the controller under data protection law.

Before the first search you accept this once, in the Find clients terms. If the terms change in a way that matters, Find clients asks again.

When a business says yes

Click Make it their website next to its draft in Find clients, or in the editor under Publish. frascati asks first whether the business agreed: only then does the draft become its website.

  • The line on top and the end date go, and it stays online. A draft that already ended comes back.
  • Search engines may list it, its pages are captured for them, and it can join the showcase like your other websites.
  • The Remove this draft link stops working at once: nobody can take their website offline with it.
  • Its row says Won with the date, and the six-month cleanup leaves it alone.

The address: the draft's keeps working. When an address from the business's name is free, like baeckerei-muster.frascati.page, the website can have that one instead, and the draft's address forwards to it. Their own domain is connected afterwards like for any website: Publish, Custom domain.

Do not contact

Set a business to Do not contact when it asked not to be contacted, and no later search shows it again. A business that removes its draft goes on the list by itself.

For website owners

frascati's website check reads a home page, its Impressum and its contact page, at most one request per second per site, and names itself as frascatibot in the user agent. It reads robots.txt first and keeps to it. To keep it out, add the line User-agent: frascatibot to your website's robots.txt, and under it Disallow: /.

Someone made a draft website for your business? The line at its top has Remove this draft: one click takes it offline for good, and the person who made it will not contact you about it again. Once you agreed to keep it as your website, the link no longer removes it: ask the person who made it.
